Typically, the fraudster creates a fake identity on dating sites or social media platforms, often presenting themselves as an attractive or charming individual who is looking for love or companionship. They build a relationship over time, using emotional appeals and fabricated stories to gain the victim’s trust and affection. Once a connection is established, the scammer will create a crisis or emergency that necessitates financial assistance, prompting the victim to send money or provide sensitive information under the guise of helping their “partner.”
