The House Oversight Committee (HOC), formally known as the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, is the primary investigative committee of the United States House of Representatives, founded in 1927. Its mission is to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and its agencies. The committee has broad jurisdiction, allowing it to oversee a wide range of issues, including government spending, regulatory practices, and the implementation of federal laws. Currently chaired by James Comer (R) since January 10, 2023, with Gerry Connolly (D) serving as the ranking member since January 3, 2025, the committee consists of 47 members. Its work is crucial for maintaining checks and balances within the government, promoting transparency, and addressing concerns related to waste, fraud, and abuse.
